The Next Phase of Insurance Brokerage Requires a New Operating Model

Why MVP Ventures invested in Gyde’s AI-native approach to brokerage transformation.

The insurance brokerage industry is at an inflection point.

Tens of thousands of independent agencies across the U.S. serve as the primary distribution point for increasingly complex insurance, health, and benefits decisions. However, most operate with manual workflows, limited technology, and mounting administrative burdens.

Private equity consolidators have proven the durability of the brokerage model, but the playbook has largely been one of passive aggregation: buying agencies, centralizing back-office functions, and moving on to the next deal. While effective at scale, that approach leaves much of the underlying operating model unchanged.

Gyde is built around the idea that meaningful scale in brokerage requires rethinking the operating model itself, an approach well-suited for the next phase of the brokerage market.

AI-Native, Not AI-Adjacent

Rather than acquiring agencies and leaving legacy workflows intact, Gyde deploys a proprietary AI platform. Their system automates low complexity enrollment and renewal administrative workflows, improves client service, and powers intelligent cross-selling, allowing brokers to focus on higher-value advisory work while improving efficiency, margins, and customer experience.

Gyde’s platform is not standalone software bolted onto an existing business. It is designed as an operating system for brokerages. The system is always-on and compliant, handling high-volume client interactions while escalating complex moments to human agents. Over time, it captures data and signals across insurance and health products, enabling more personalized recommendations and higher lifetime value per client.

When paired with Gyde’s acquisition strategy, this creates a repeatable transformation model rather than a traditional roll-up. Designing technology and the operating model together creates a structurally different foundation for scale.

A Team Built for This Moment

Gyde’s founding team brings exactly the right experience for the challenge ahead. CEO Will Johnson spent nearly a decade at Oscar Health, where he launched markets, owned P&Ls, and built broker-facing platforms. He understands the regulatory complexity of insurance and the

central role brokers play in distribution. COO Sam Wiener scaled broker networks at Oscar and Spark Advisors, giving him hands-on experience with the operational realities of broker-driven growth.

This isn’t a team learning the industry as they go. They have lived the insurance brokerage experience and know the pain points of working within legacy workflows. This combination of domain expertise, early traction, and a structurally differentiated model positions Gyde to modernize one of the most important distribution layers in insurance.

The Opportunity Ahead

The insurance brokerage market remains large and fragmented, with many high-quality independent agencies operating below their potential due to tooling and capacity constraints. Gyde is targeting independent agencies, initially in the Southeast and Southwest, with an initial focus on Medicare Advantage, Employee Benefits, and the Individual Markets (ACA, ICHRA). Over time, they plan to expand geographically and into adjacent verticals, including wealth management.

Reflecting on the market opportunity, Gyde CEO Will Johnson shared:

“We are building Gyde to enable our partners to achieve their loftiest growth ambitions. Over time, we believe this unlocks something more transformational: brokers serving as trusted, lifelong guides across insurance, health, and wealth, delivering even more value to these systems in novel, previously unimaginable ways.”

Early execution reinforced our belief in this approach. Gyde moved quickly from concept to live usage of its AI platform with design-partner brokerages. The platform is already supporting real-world renewals and client communications, shaping product iteration and validating impact as the company scales.

Gyde’s official launch and $60 million financing are a testament to that work. MVP Ventures is proud to partner with Will, Sam, and the entire Gyde team as they modernize one of the most important distribution layers in insurance.
