Nest Health — Rebekah Gee interview
"MVP's willingness to help with talent — really leaning in, proactively checking in — was what made us pick them as our main ride-along funder for this round, even when we had to leave others behind."
In their own words.
Tell us about Nest Health.
I am CEO and founder of Nest. I'm an OB-GYN, former Health Secretary for the state of Louisiana, and parent of five. I started Nest because I was frustrated with the lack of support for mothers and their children in this country — particularly low-income moms who struggle to get care for themselves and their families.
What was MVP's involvement early on?
Super supportive from the very beginning of what we're doing at Nest, which is to bring care home for low-income families. Early on you sent us a video about how you wanted to work with us, why it mattered to you, and it was clear from the very beginning — and has continued to be clear — that you care about us, what we're doing, and want to be helpful and value-add.
Why did you choose MVP when your cap table was tight?
We had options of other co-funders — there were several we ended up leaving behind because we just didn't have room in our cap table. MVP's willingness to help with talent, lean in, and be proactive in checking in with us was what made us select MVP as our main ride-along funder for this round.
How have they helped with talent?
Talent for sure. Every time we've had a major role, we've sent it to MVP with the job description, and you all have had great candidate ideas. That's critical in the first few months and years of a startup as you fill out senior talent. So that's been super helpful.
How would you describe the relationship?
It's a perfect mother-in-law relationship. Helps you when you need help but then sits back and doesn't get into your business. MVP meets that standard — helpful, informed, low-maintenance, great executive team. Easy to work with. I would recommend you to any founder.
