In their own words.
Tell us about GaeaStar.
My name is Sanjeev Mankotia. I'm the founder of GaeaStar. Our mission is to eliminate plastic waste — specifically single-use plastic waste — using a distributed manufacturing methodology, commonly known as 3D printing.
Why did you let MVP into an already over-subscribed round?
We had actually closed the round, which was over-subscribed, but looking at MVP and talking to them — seeing they could help more than just writing a check — was really important. So we decided to take a little bit more investment.
Where have they helped most?
They've been able to collaborate with us in looking for talent — that's really important. We've shared some key positions with them. They have a partner, Cecilia, on their team who focuses on talent. She was able to look at those positions, give our people-person some guidance, but also connect us with actual resources — meaning people we hired. That was really great.
How involved have they been in the business?
They've been quite involved with strategic conversations and how to build the business. They've been very helpful in making some nice intros to potential customers. They've visited us a few times since their investment — they actually see the progress and touch the product. That's how they've been really engaged from an investor perspective. They could be truly part of the team — versus just someone giving you money and going away. We have people like that on our cap table — that's what they promised to do, write a check, and they did. But MVP goes the extra mile. They're certainly on my speed dial.
What's the difference you've felt working with MVP?
Investors are generally very busy managing their portfolios, but every time I reach out to MVP I get a quick response and actual quick help. Now we're setting up for our next fundraise and they've been part of the discussions — strategy about that. That's been extremely helpful. They're founder-friendly, supportive in both good and bad times. That's where it counts — when things are challenging and they're there giving you advice and introducing you to people who can help. To me, those are more important investors than somebody who just writes a check.
